Depends how well you want to be able to play it. You can pick up the game in a matter of hours and be able to constantly beat most beginners. You can play for years and still have lots to learn.

I'm decent at it. and am a break even player on real money sites. I'm very good on places like yahoo.
The best way to learn it is to start by memorizing the opening roll moves, after that is a matter of basic strategy concepts and math. there is a big difference in strategy between a single game match or a multiple game match where the doubling cube comes in.
A lot of poker players, especially foreign players, are good gammon players. Gus plays for $1,000 a point
We should start a backgammon thread in the sports and games forum for some talk.Last edited by Steve Ruddock; 01-26-2006 at 06:44 PM.

it seems highly unlikely to me that backgammon real money sites will ever become too popular for the fact that there are many "deep blue" level backgammon bots that would be able to turn a huge profit against any but the absolute best players. Try downloading Jellyfish and beating it on level 7 - its quite a feat.

We have a sports and games forum. We do not need a backgammon forum.
