Randy Moss's short career doesn't have many receptions, but that's heavily in part to being along side Jake Reed and Cris Carter. No one can deny his dominance and that after Carter retired, he had on of the best QB's in the game throwin' them up. The most electric stats are Touchdowns: 90 in 7 years and Super Bowl appearances: 0
If Randy Moss retires now, is he a Hall of Famer? I say, "Not yet." but Michael Irvin is a Hall of Famer as are Art Monk, Sterling Sharpe, Shannon Sharpe, Andre Reed, and James Lofton.
Without a Super Bowl appearance, let alone a win, the stats need to be HUGE and Sterling Sharpe changed the game. You almost have to have him there for that short period of dominance as a "Thank You."
Shannon Sharpe goes in for the same reasons as Howie Long and Dan Hampton- playing huge roles in Super Bowl teams while having very GOOD careers. No sport does winning make you a Hall of Famer like football. That's why Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, and Jim Kelly are in.
Is Warren Moon in? He should be, if not, and there's no doubt about that.

umm shannon has a lot of tight end records.
and the other guys you mentioned, Monk, Reed, Lofton are all big in RECEPTIONS
Moss is a true talent but will only make the hall if he continues to play and breaks into the top 10 in receptions. which I think he will.

Shannon Sharpe and Ben Coates changed that position and the Cowboys had Jay Novacek lightin' it up when Irvin, Harper, and Smith were covered. Is Novacek a Hall of Famer? Coates still holds single season records, I believe. Does his Super Bowl appearance and being such a building block with Parcells and Bledsoe put him in the Hall?
Monk won 2 or 3 Super Bowls, too, Steve and Reed and Lofton went 4 straight years and lost to the best team every year. Sucks for them, Thurman, Kelly, and B. Smith

Coates is not a hall of famer, and I'm a Pats fan. he had a few good years but if you want to be in the NFL hall of fame you need 10+ good years. Novacek was also 3X the blocker Coates and Sharpe were.
My point with the recievers was that they are all top 10 all time receptions wise, I know they have postseason success but that is more a determinate for QB's and coaches, and offensive lineman for some reason.
Coates set that record the year the pats HAD TO throw the ball almost every down.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

The same reason a freshman or sophomore will never win the Heisman, overzelous media types.
Moss has great numbers, but also has the stigma of poor work ethic/bad teammate/and less than 100% effort
7 years, 109 games
574 receptions, 9100 yards, 90 TDs, as long as he can have 3 or 4 more productive seasons he is in. compare his stats to
James Lofton 233 games, 764 receptions, 14,000 yards, 75 Tds
Andre Reed 234 games, 951 receptions, 13100 yards, 87 TDs
Art Monk 888 receptions, 12000 yards, 75 TDs
more TD's and should easily pass monk in yards possibly lofton if he stays healthy.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

If he retires right now he is a hall of famer.
Do any of you remember his rookie season? He destroyed all kinds of rookie records and never hit the rookie wall. He averages 1300 yds a year, even after posting a sub 800 yd season last year due to injury. Those are Jerry Rice numbers(in each of their first 7 years, Moss averages slightly more). He is the most raw talent the league has ever seen.
Some arguements against his induction would include the qb he has been with. Nobody has ever said that about Rice? His rookie season he played opposite Chris Carter, but that was a short amount of time. Many people say Stallworth's fame was hurt playing opposite Swann but it is the opposite for Moss?
Too many people don't understand what the Hall of Fame is. It isn't the Hall of Good; it isn't the Hall of Great Personalities; it is the Hall of Fame. Moss's talent and personality fit this bill whether you like him or not.
