Default Greatest tennis player of all time?

Guys i have been watching tennis since borg and in my humble(and not always accurate) opinion it has to be Pete Sampras. The guy could do it all(serve, volley, smash shots from the baselin). I dont think Nadal or federer was this complete.

I dont agree. I think Nadal and Federer are at the same level.

Yep, Nadal and Federer, but I think Nadal will be the far-far best in a few years.

It's so tough to compare Sampras to someone who is at their peak today. The game has changed tremendously, and players are bigger, stronger, and better equipped than they were just 15 years ago.

If you judge by singles grand slam tourneys won, Federer takes the cake as of last year. I think that is as good of a benchmark as you can get, though I admit it's a pretty poor way to measure two tennis greats.

Federer no doubt - the level of competition is so much tougher than it was in Sampras' day

there are so many great tennis players. Does a guy like Jim Courier rank as the best ever?? no, but that might be because he was up against aLL the greats of the last 25 years. Same for Big Mac.. Probably not the BESt tennis player, but a star in his own right...
I think Agassi-Sampras was just a magnificient era where they had to fight past more then just 2 or 3 also rans liek you have nowadays.. There are just no tournaments won by guys not ranked 1-5 anymore...
