He's great, but Zidane is still the best player of all time.
I've seen him live in Madrid, he just hammered it in from a weird angle and like 50m distance, and ball was not on the ground...lol
Think he got several "worlds best player of the year" awards too.

reason why Rooney will NEVER get the credit he deserves(from non-english people): he will never dribble past 5 players before rounding the keeper and score a goal of the season that will be shown worldwide.
reason why Rooney IS one of the best players in the world: he is one of the hardest working team players I have ever seen who never stops working along with the fact that he gets is fair share of goals.
as for the best player in the world, i reckon when Ronaldo finally moves to Real Madrid, i think he will take the Spanish league by storm and confirm his status as a footie god.
i also predict that that russian dude will be a much talked about player in the next few years.

What you mean is Rooney actually does the job at hand without poncing about like a girl unlike some of our continental friends?

Rooney is a damn good player and if you watch him (as in actually at the game) you will see his movement is brilliant. Shevchenko was another who never got the credit he deserved (in the past anyway), his off the ball movement was pretty much as good as it gets.
Ronaldo is a great player, his scoring record says it all. I think he gets a bit anonymous at times though so I wouldn't say he's the "best", maybe the most skillful though. Personally I think Ronaldinho and Messi are better players than him.
Possibly controversial choice for all round best player imo is Xavi.
And obv Nacho Novo!

When Beckham got his 100th cap I cried.
He is the definitive footballer of my generation.
I actually think I saw him play as a kid when Man United sent their youth team to Luton for a pre season friendly. I remember his debut, his goal against Wimbledon from inside his own half, I remember how much abuse he got after World cup 98. To see him come back from that to captain his country and
then to come back again recently having been written off for a second time and prove he still has a place in the squad.
I guess for those of you a few years younger than me this will be how you view someone like Wayne Rooney in a few years time, and how Dee views someone like George Best.
