So, I haven't slept since Tuesday, for one and with Vegas last weekend and the non-stop partying, online poker playing, and partying while playing online poker all this week, I decided to stay away from the casino tonight and just play a couple of SnG's and go out. No cash games. No MTT's.
Then, I remembered that I had after hours plans, so I stopped playing poker, took a shower, got dressed and read a post in Bonch's "chess or backgammon" thread. I played it a couple of times as a kid, but that was it, so I went to a backgammon site and read a page on a site about how it was played. I downloaded "Play 65," watched a couple of matches and decided to deposit $200 and play a $5 match. I lost.
Then, I played a couple more $5 matches. Won a few, lost the most and now it 3:00 AM and I wasn't answering my phone because i was wrapped in the game. So, I guess since I'm not getting laid tonight, I was gonna hop around some bakgammon sites and mess with software.
I rambling. Anyway, my real questions are:
Anyone know what the best backgammon sites are to play on?
and
What are some good strategy sites?
BTW, I've been playing Chess fairly religiously since I was 7, so please don't reply with, "Backgammon sucks. Play chess."
EDIT: It's not 3AM. It's 10 to 4. I'm need to take a couple of days off of the yay.

don't read any strategy sites yet. play for a couple of weeks then read them. you will be able to figure out basic strategy on your own then the strategy sites and books will show you where you are making mistakes.
it's mostly mathematical and positioning, but there are times where your strategy will change based on your opponent (defensive player or offensive). I don't play for money online but tell me where you end up at and I'll play you a few times for $5 and talk you through some basic stuff if you want. I'm no superstar but I'm pretty solid at it.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

Steve,
I was playing $5 a match last night against people with really low ratings and lost $20. If we played, I would wanna play like 8-10 and I really don't wanna put $40-$50 down on a consistent basis on a game where I don't really know what the hell I'm doing against someone who I don't know if they're good, great, or at leat knows what the hell he's doing. They let you play for anywhere from $0.01-$500 a match, so I'd be cool with playing $1 a game for a while. Go to http://www.play65.com and download the software. Send me your IM and I can check in with you if I see you online and ask if you wanna play. That goes for anyone else as well. Of course, my name there is "The Alex."

HA! That's like some bowling n00b who creams his pants everytime he bowls over 100 bowling me $0.50 a pin. That's retarded.

Go to www.gammonempire.com
Guys,
As a backgammon maniac I play on www.gammonempire.com. I put down $50 games with a $200 limit and on average in a 8 hour period I can win usually 75% of my matches. I highly recommend that you download an analyzer program (Snowie etc..) which will help your game a lot and will teach you exactly how to play in such a way that this has become a regual second income for me. They also have large tournaments at the end of the month (around $30K with $90 buy-in) which is always good.
Your more then welcome to post any questions and I would be glad to help. If anyone wants to play, my user on www.gammonempire.com is: billybob7
