As it turns out his son was suffering from Fragile X Syndrome, which up until now, they had kept a secret from pretty much everyone. Its basically a form of mental retardation with accompanying Autism, which could well have been a factor in everything. Maybe the stress of being on the road 300 days a year and having a son with such a problematic medical condition simply became too much and he snapped. Who knows? Its well documented that he and his wife had a stormy relationship so maybe an argument went too far and he killed her by accident and out of sheer guilt and shame he killed his son and then killed himself?

I am not for one minute trying to even remotely justify what he did because clearly it was extremely fucked up and wrong in every sense. I'm just trying to offer another opinion opposed to the "steroids fucked him up so he killed them" line.
