    Default Gin Rummy

So I've been playing a lot of gin rummy with my girlfriend, and was trying to look up gin rummy sites to look for strategies.

I only found a couple sites with extremely basic tips, that didn't go in-depth on them.

I'm very much a beginner, but understand some basic strategical concepts. Right now I'm focusing on mainly trying to memorize what has been discarded and what my opponant is picking up, and what she'd putting down (Mostly memorizing what she's picking up from the discard pile).

How come there are no sites with good strategical information? Perhaps gin rummy is not nearly as popular as I thought it was? Or perhaps it's mostly just a person game? I'll probably have to buy a book, I guess.

But I couldn't even find any information on gin rummy tournaments...

Noob... had to move your thread

It's a secret society type game. Not much publicity. I'm a fairly decent player, but I couldn't teach you how to play, since I've learned it from just playing (and from my grandfather, that man was psychotic at Gin, Mike Matusow style too, he would wipe the floor with us grandkids and then talk smack about it, with 8 year olds. He would do the same with his kids too, he was an awesome player). But I would guess a library would be your best start...
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

oooh that game's fun. i don't know any more strategy than just paying attention and going after the most probable combinations, though.

Thanks bonch, but I've already read that first link - that is just very basic strategy.. I was looking for something slightly more advanced, but also going into depth as to WHY.

The second link I'd LOVE if it was directly related to Gin Rummy, such as tools for remembering what cards are discarded etc.

As for the books, those may be what I have to end up using...

I don't think there is a magic formula for gin. Its more knowing the discards, your opponents tendencies (do they dump high point cards), and when to knock

The most important by far; however, it's also probably the toughest part by far.

I'm mainly just working on memorizing what she has by: #1. What she picks up, #2. What she puts down, and then #3. What she probably has, as in, if she doesn't pick up a 9, or puts down a 9, but then picks up a 9 of spades, and i have an 8 of spades, I can put in the back of my mind that she probably has a 10 of spades... stuff like that.

It's fun because one game I knew what she had and I told her. "a23 of hearts, tjqk of hearts". And when I knocked, i was right Didn't know her other 3 yet though.
