    Default What would you do

Getting near the payout(correct term?) of a satellite tourney. I was sitting in about 75th place of 160 people left, top 100 get get entry to the next tourney. I had about 34,000 chips blinds where at 10,000 in a turbo they where going up about every 4 minutes.

I'm on the button it gets folded to me I've got pocket 8's. I knew the small blind was gonna fold since he was afk/disconnected. The big blind had about 67,000chips, playing extremely tight, he had only played maybe 3 hands in the last 70 or so.

I decide to all in (blind steal) get called and busted, he had K4o he managed to pair the king.

My reasoning was by stealing the buttons i figured i was pretty much gaurunteed being able to coast to the prize and if i get called i figured it would be about a coin flip, decided i was probably not gonna get a better position (button, lowmid pocket pair, against an afk small blind and super tight big blind) Also i thought if i just put in a raise it was still 2/3'rds of my stack and if he was gonna call i don't see why he wouldn't put me all in anyways

Just wondering what your guys thoughts are. Or other things to consider. I wouldn't say i am new to the game but i wouldn't say i am experienced either. what other thought processes should be going through my mind

Dead on play. You had 3.4 bets left in your hand. You can't fold a pair to the blinds.

Your logic is dead on. Good play.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

Poker is gambling. There is always going to be variance. You can make many correct plays and lose. You just keep making correct decisions and try to make +EV decisions.

I am well aware of that, it just one of those hands that tickled me at the back of my mind "was that the right move"

i mean when it happened it was like 5 seconds of thought, okay all fold to me, pocket pair ultra tight big blind, need to increase stack size by 50% for almost guaranteed place, decision made.

then ..... critical loss, tourney over .F****.. did i do the write thing, i never thought about it that much, maybe i would have picked up on something.

plus new to forums might as well make some discussion , instead of repeating the same old questions.

however i suppose after a million hands or so everything starts to e the same question after awhile

either way i felt personally i made the right decision i was just looking to see if there was any fault in my reasoning or something you guys could clue me into i might not have thought about

Against an absent SB, and a tight BB, with a low M value; you're going to be shoving really wide there, almost any two cards.

On the flop side, when BB has to decide what to do with K4o, I think he's forced into calling as you should be shoving a wide range, and he has a fair bit of equity.

Hi all.... The one thing about satellites is that all the people In the money, get the same prize..there is no difference if ur 1st or 100th... In a regular tourney where the payouts are top heavy, and there is absolutely no point in min cashing after hours of grinding, then this play makes total sense... cause you have to do anything to aim for the Final table... then u can shove with any two cards in that position... In this case, there are still a lot of people behind you who have less than the blinds you have left... and the biggest advantage u have is that, You are on the BUTTON... that means 7 almost free hands... the people behind u are going to be more desperate than you... so u should let them make moves and bust themselves out... Another thing to do here is take more time in making decisions, so that short stacks get busted before blinds reach you... but i dont know if thats ethical... just giving my opinion..

    Cheers from India...

Played that spot perfect, but maybe you needed to make more chips before you only had 3bb left, the bb made a decent call due the good pot odds.
