Should I mix up my game and trap once a while with big pairs or is this a bad play in general ? I'm starting to loosen my game at this stage but having a tight table image I don't get much action usually from early.
Preflop: Hero is UTG with K, K
Hero calls t200, UTG calls t200, MP1 bets t1600, 3 folds, SB raises to t1940 (All-In), Hero raises to t2360 (All-In), 1 fold, MP1 calls t760

It's not something I do often as it's VERY situational/player dependent, I have to be nearly 100% sure someone is going to raise and be dumb enough to get it in with me.

UTG tourney... consider table, but limping often elicits a chance to reraise with KK/AA. When possible I try to make positional play either consistant or observably random pf if I think anyone is paying attention.

I would not call there. I would raise on that spot to try to lead the hand and when I get re-raised in that spot definitely all in, but I would be worried that UTG with KK I could get too many calls and have someone hit something on the flop.

Sometimes if im raising 3x BB normally, i might make it 4-4.5xBB if im UTG with a big pair. I dont want alot of callers but i do want some. If KK is your hand and an A comes out on the flop you gotta be careful. You have to be willing to lay it down if you get too much resistance. The larger than normal raise could look like a bluff and if you get one caller and the flop is good for you (no A and not too coordinated) you could very well make this guy committed if it hit something. Its a great setup for felting someone.

With 11-12BB you really shouldn't be getting fancy. Now, if you had a much larger stack (or even a stack in the 5-8BB range) the play is ok depending on your read of the table. But with your stack this makes almost zero sense unless you had a specific read someone would pop-it.
In this case your stack dictates the plays you have available in your arsenal, and with 11-12BB your stack is saying raise or fold. This is not a time to get cute.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog
