Default New to the forums; New to poker

Hey guys, I'm new here. Been thinking about this hand all day but I don't have anyone to talk to about it, so I was hoping I could make myself comfortable here and learn with and from you guys. I'm in desperate need of a poker education.

This is early in a $5 buy in 45 man Sit N Go, probably the 15th hand or so, and I didn't have much information on any of the players. Blinds are 15/30 with the average stack of my opponents at about 1400 and my stack being 1900.

I'm on the button. UTG calls the blinds, it gets folded to me, I call the blinds with 3s 3d. SB calls, BB checks.

Flop comes up 3c 5s 7c, and I've made bottom set. SB bets 200 into the 120 pot, BB calls, UTG calls, and I decide to raise to 600 thinking I'd push out the possible straight or flush draws. SB calls, BB goes all in, UTG goes all in, and I decide to fold. SB calls the all-ins.

I figured with everyone limping in, the chances are were good that one of the three of them had a flush draw, a better set, or a straight. It was really painful for me to lay it down, but I still had plenty of chips to compete.

Was my raise on the flop the right move (should I have called?)? Was I right to lay the hand down? Any input or suggestions for the future would be hugely appreciated.

I'll tell you guys the outcome of the hand later in the thread. I'm extremely new to playing poker, but I've been watching WSOP, WPT, and Poker After Dark for years.

In that scenario if you wanted to raise to push out any draws, it should have been an all-in, because many times people will chase their draws even if it costs 3/4 of their stack calling little by little. But in this case, it's entirely possible SB or BB has 46 (especially BB, no telling what he has). UTG may have limped with 55 or 77 as well. With soooo much action, so early in a tournament, I would fold and wait for better opportunities. If the flop had been something like 3c 8h Jd, then the only things beating you at this point are 88 and JJ, which is very unlikely, so on a spread out board you'd want to get it all in.

I didn't think people would be so reckless. I guess that even if I had lost after going all in, I would have been left with about 500, and I think I could have lived with that.

It turned out that SB had J4, BB had 84, and UTG had 44. Every one of them was chasing the same straight, and none of them had a club. The turn paired the board.... How can 3 people go all-in on the flop with just a straight draw?

Welcome to online poker. That kind of insanity is standard. But also remember you shouldn't change your tactics based on what they flip over (which is called being results oriented), you should always try to base your decision on the information available. With 3 opponents all going all-in on such a draw-heavy board and possibility of already being beaten, early in a tournament, I would still fold.

A cash game is where it's different though. You would want to get all-in on the flop because you're ahead most of the time.

    And welcome to the forums!

That's nothing. You'll see the most amazingly stupid things people do... I've had people call me on the river for $150 with 8-high before...

Soon you'll realize just how moronic some players are, although it is hard to believe sometimes...
