The guys behind me were both calling stations and i had seen numerous pots where guys would flat raises less then 3x with weak holdings...but still not sure if this was a good play or not? is the oshove uncalled for?

UTG+1 makes a raise just bigger than minimum. You definitely want to raise here to get the hand heads up with position. In this spot, I'd raise it to 6k or 7k and then fold to a 4-bet. If nobody 4-bets preflop, I b/f this flop, then c/f the rest of the way.
