Default COULD I HAVE DONE IT DIFFERENTLY

Ok so I get pocket queens in the big blind in a live multi.

The blinds are going up very quickly at this stage 500 - 1000, its a pretty loose game

The betting comes round to me - no raises.

I raise to 4000, the button calls, so does the small blind.

The button has around 12bb left, the small blind about 14bb.

    Flop comes over

    9, 5, 6

The small blind - who's been tightish all tournament shoves.

    I call.

    The button calls

    The small blind has J,J

    The button has 7,8s

oh and just to make matters worse, the jack hits on the river so I get completely cleaned out.

Could I have avoided this? Should I have been more wary of the straight draw or potential pockets, or is it just a bad beat and do I have to just suck it up?

I mean the tight small blind had lower pockets than me so the call was good I was just unlucky but could I have predicted the button?

    Any tips appreciated.

Since it looks like you have between 12 and 14 BBs in your stack, I would have pushed all-in preflop. How many players called before your raise?

Even shoving PF, you'd have probably still busted as JJ almost definitely would have called. That's poker.

I didn't see if you said how many chips you have, but assuming it's around the other 2, then you played it fine.

How many chips did you have?

This hand seems standard, although depending on the above question a shove pre-flop may have been better.

BTW would you be asking this question if the board had run 956QQ?

With a few limpers and under 15 BB at a loose table, PF shove sounds better. Your play was fine too, just unlucky.

Yupyup - definitely just a "That's poker!" kind of hand. If the blinds were going up that fast and everyone getting shorter stacks relatively speaking that JJ wasn't going anywhere pf.
