Was this the right play? Should i check raise? Should i just shove over his raise? He seemed fairly sensible, not a maniac.

If he was sensible, I doubt he'd call preflop with 89, 34, or 48. He also wouldn't call with anything that gave him 2 pair. The only hands he could really have you beat with is if he flopped a set or has an overpair, too. If he had A7, he'd probably just call you, not min-raise.

Flat calling will pretty much have you pot committed, so it's really going to depend on your read on him. If I was past the bubble, I'd probably ship it in over the top. Otherwise, though, it may be worth taking the hit and living to fight another hand.

Without reads I would have done exactly what you did. I don't normally expect any hands you beat to make this minraise.

I think you played that right. Not many hands that he's going to make that raise with that you can beat.

Likely answer to what he's holding is a set. I suppose it's possible he has an overpair, but to just flat call pre-flop with 1010+ seems a little strange, especially if he's going to confidently re-pop on the flop.

There is an outside chance that he could be holding 88 or 44 I guess.
