You guys always say that. 3x the blind is a standard raise no? I know that is not the case here but I did 2.5x of what was originally raised (that was a min-raise albiet). I dunno am I getting away from it either way?

    1. pretend like you just called (40)
    2. count the money that would be in the pot (40+40+40+20+10=150)
    3. add that to the original raise size (40+150=190)
    4. raise that amount (190)

congratulations, you have made a pot-sized raise!!!!

by only raising to 100 pf, ur giving the first guy 3.5/1 to call and the next guy 4.5/1 to call.....if they hit a magical flop, they have a great chance to win a monster pot if they see u as having a big pair and not "being able" to let it go (as happened here)

i always like a 2.5/3x raise when im first in the pot and generally always raise the pot if someone limps/raises before me(may push depending on my stack obv)

the different scenarios that can arise depending on the size of ur raise:

    1) A small raise like u made
you're almost guaranteed to get called so you have no idea where ur at post flop as these guys could have any 2 at all and any major action u get is likely to mean the end of ur tournament

    2) You raise the pot and are called by one player
you can narrow their range down somewhat, have some idea where u stand depending on what comes on the flop and play it accordingly. you also build a larger pot for when they hit a random part of it and want to stick with you and it also makes your decision making a little easier later in the hand as the pot is bigger and more "worth" winning.

    3) You raise the pot and get no callers
they had nothing to start with and so all you're losing out on is avoiding the kind of situation that occured in this hand. it sucks to win a tiny pot with AA but its better than losing a monster one.

AA is a great hand to start with but not much use when u go busto with it to some rag hand that hits a dream flop for next to nothing in chips.

Very good advice. However, look at the buy-in. Most of these guys have the IQ of a carrot. That Q3s would have called a bigger raise with Q3s.
