I was in a £2 head hunter/bounty mtt on the worst site in the world-william hill. Blinds wer up to 300/150 and average stack was about 7000. I had 4100 and was in the big blind with ace q offsuit. A guy with the same number of chips as me raise UTG to 1200. He had been playing pretty tight. I knew he had some sorta hand here.
I didnt want to shove cos i thought i would be behind bt at the same time wanted to see the flop,so i just called. (was this a good play?)
The flop came down q 10 4 all different suits.
I then thought theres no way i can lay this hand down or just check, if he has aces or kings then nh.
So i moved all in for 2900.
The guy vertually instantly called with ace king.
Then BANG us usual on will hill i go in miles ahead the the miracle card comes....A Jack to give him the straight.
I then went on to say what the hell was he calling for there, but do u think he had the right to?
Im still not sure-i know i would have folded if i was him cos i knew i would be behind but thats just me. Plus there wer just 8 more people left to go out before the money!
So sick

Well at the stage of the tournament for you in my opinion you are getting close to shove poker. Your M is about 10 getting close to danger (try to make something happen mode). I really dont like the calling 25% of your stack with the hand especially since you admitted that he was tight and knew he had a hand. If you decide to play AQ here then its push all in. As for him there was alot in the pot and he had to overs and the straight draw so I think he was correct in calling based on the money in the pot and knowing that he could bust you. Either way hopefully someone with more experience than me will give you some better advice. GL to you.

Facts are this... Raise of 4x BB. Get one caller.
Flop comes up and you push. The raiser has to think. What hands can this guy possibly have.
Here are the raisers odds.
You have A J..... 83 / 14
You also have A K 50/50
You have pockets 7's to 9's... 40 / 60
You have Johnies..... 29 / 71
You have K Q or A Q or KK 27 / 72
You were slow playing pocket A's---16 / 83
You have trips.... 14 / 86
The only hand he has you beat is if you have A J. Only hands he has decent odds are pockets up to 9's or AK. Otherwise he's at 1 to 3 or worse odds. This is where your preceived playing style comes in. Did you bluff a lot? Did you call big raises with marginal hands? Did you C-bet a lot? He's got plenty left to make a run if he folds...
Unless your a big bluffer or LAG... it's a bad call. But...... many, many poker players don't know odds at all... so don't be surprised when they do call.
Missed this part he first time. All things considered... your right...it was a horrible call.Plus there wer just 8 more people left to go out before the money!Last edited by smack77; 01-16-2008 at 12:34 PM.
