Incorrect.
if the blinds have like 6-12bb or w/e (stacks that cant flat call you) and they are tight because its close to the FT or the money bubble, experiment with opening to 2.5x (as you should always, imo) UTG with hands like 55 and K9s. You will be amazed at the folds you get, even in $22/$33 mtts.
However stealing is all about the % of your stack you are risking. I'm not utg stealing for 10% of my stack or w/e. An utg steal is effective when you have a lot of chips, say like 25bb+ (decent stack late in most online mtt) for 2 reasons
A. when it doesnt work, its less of a % of your stack than 15bb or w/e
B. You should be doing it to pick on the blinds who are short on chips and cant flatcall or resteal with a very wide range, so sometimes you have to be prepared to make a pot odds call with an utg 55 raise or JTs or w/e. and again you don't mind doing this for small %'s of your stack.
It's the same for a resteal. Say there are 3 tables left in a $55 mtt. You have a 16bb stack. the button who has a 16bb stack open raises to 3x the blind which he had been doing a fair amount previously. You shove T9s.
Same scenario, only you have a 50bb stack (16bb effective). You shove T9s.
In both hands the % of times you get called is relatively* the same. However since the 2nd resteal is a smaller % of your stack, it is a better spot.
*= Strong players** will look up your reshoves a little lighter when u have the 50bb stack because they understand this concept.
**= There are not many strong players in the final 3 tables of most $55 or under mtts.
