Question AK IN MY BIG BLIND SHOULD I RAISE

hey i was in a live tournament tonight.....i had about 17,000 in chips at the time the blinds were 300/600 i was in the big bling.. with AK suited (spades) there were 7 callers with myself... i decided to raise 5000 on top of the 600.. becuz i felt i could pick the pot up right there.. ended up after i raised the guy in 2nd position moved all in for another 4500 i was priced to call i felt and figured he had aces which he did........ ive been in an agrument with sum friends wondering what the right play is there.. i say ( i dont like makin that play but theres a nice amount of chips in the pot to be picked up right there.. and really Aces is the only hand that im almost dead at.. even if sumone limps in with KK i can still hit an ACE and win.. i myte add i was the chip leader at my table......... there saying they would just check.. and check everytime if that were them ........ what do u think.. what would u do?

7 limpers at 600 each = 4200 + your bb = 4800 in pot. If you're chip leader with <30bb it sounds like a donkament. Just shove when it gets round to you.

I'd normally be inclined to raise to $2500 in hopes of narrowing the field, but with you being chip leader any caller would be committed. You'd be better off either pushing preflop or limping instead of raising (any amount).

As for running into aces, that sometimes happens, but you can't let it scare you. If you have AK, the chances of running into either AA or KK is very very slim (you have one of each card). QQ is far more likely, and with a big pot you'll often get people getting frisky with 88+ and A10 etc... Once he pushed, it is an easy call for me.

If its the type of tourney I play in live you have nearly zero fold equity, plus after donkeys see a flop they're far more likely to chase gross draws at any price. Put enough stupid people in one hand and you're likely to get outdrawn. Shoving preflop will usually isolate, *usually*

i feel i made the right play n just got unlucky to run into aces.. but sumone seems to think the right play is just to check there everytime........ i find that wrong. with 7 callers x 600 + 1000 antes i feel theres enough money in there to even commit a bluff in that situation n steal all the antes n blinds...... but backing lets say a bluff up with AK suited. cant be a wrong play or a bad one... just bad luck that sum1 limped with aces........ then again i could be wrong.. buts thats my theory

You played it fine mate. With 5800 in the pot and AKs I'm shoving this every day of the week.

Guy with aces is a donkus. He should have open shoved and expected a call.

I raise to about 3k and call the shove.

I probably just shove, unless there are alot of people who are close to my stack size and its looks like a stupid overbet.
