Default Smart call or donkey move u decide

We were heads up for about 50 hands so we both had pretty good reads on each others playing style.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (2 handed) Hand History converter Courtesy of PokerZion.com

    BB (t6570)
    Hero (t2430)

Preflop: Hero is Button with , .
Hero raises to t600, BB calls t400.

This was my pretty standard raise for most paint and some mid suited connectors. His calling range was pretty wide so I put him a range of hands similar to my raising range

    Flop: (t1200) , , (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t800, BB calls t800.

This was just a standard Cbet that I do pretty frequently when I raise pflop so he was likely on to this move. So I did not really know what he had at this time.

I thought about pushing all in at this point but that is such a massive over bet that I opted to bet about 2/3rd of the pot
    Turn: (t2800) (2 players)
    BB checks, Hero checks.

    River: (t2800) (2 players)
    BB bets t5170 (All-In), Hero calls t1030 (All-In).

This bet seemed really off to me, he had never pushed all in when he had the chip lead, he was always trying to get me to pay him off. This just screamed go away
I did not put him on a J or a Q because he checked the turn.

    Final Pot: t9000

    Results in white below:
BB has Kc 2c (high card, king).
Hero has Kd 8h (high card, king).
Outcome: Hero wins t4860. BB wins t4140.

How often do steal attempts like this really happen?
Did I actually make a good read or just get really lucky
