Default "Gambling" Early in an MTT

    http://www.pokerxfactor.com/SH59552/...0070505_095438

This hand was posted on the PXF Forum by Ichiro614. He's a low/microstakes player and this was from a $2.75 freezeout. Curious as to what people think. I believe that it's flawed logic to assume that you're flipping every time you have AK.

    My responses in the thread:

I'd fold it early in a MTT also. Chances are big that one of them has a PP.
Then your chances to triple up are only 35% and not 50%
You're kidding, right? More than half the table is never folding A9/KQ/QJ/JT or any suited Ace for that matter preflop.

It's pretty clear that the initial raiser isn't folding and people don't re-raise/fold in these tournies so the BB is calling our shove along with the 1st raiser. If you tell me for a fact that I'm 35% to triple up, I stick it in immediately.

I play exactly this probably right up to the $55s (as in, the MTT buy-in right below is my cutoff)

And gambooling early is what I do anyway.

I have a huuuge problem with being extremely tight in mtt's.. I know this is definitely not a great technique considering that I have yet to get to a final table! lol

    why not 3 bet this?

If I smooth call, I will def play the way Ichiro played it. However I still don't understand why pushing or 3 beting is not the best option.

By 3 bet I mean RR the original raiser.
I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

You have no fold equity. People this early don't blind steal in the sense where they raise with intention to fold and 3-betting just builds the pot. Once the guy 3-bets from the BB, pot control goes out the window, and we have to decide to see 5 cards or no cards.
