    Default I HATE AK

OK, since the $1 18-man tourneys were kicking my ass everytime I played, I took some advice from another thread and tried a higher limit. This is from a $5 + 0.50 18 man. Here is how I got to this point in the tourney.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (7 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Hero (t1010)
    MP2 (t4635)
    CO (t2315)
    Button (t1465)
    SB (t5795)
    BB (t4620)
    UTG (t7160)

    Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 7, A.
1 fold, Hero raises to t1010, 5 folds.

    Final Pot: t1310

    Two hands later--
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (7 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    saw flop|saw showdown

    Hero (t1310)
    UTG (t4635)
    MP1 (t3115)
    MP2 (t1465)
    CO (t5695)
    Button (t4020)
    SB (t6760)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A, J.
3 folds, CO raises to t600, 2 folds, Hero raises to t1310, CO calls t710.

    Flop: (t2720) J, 2, 6 (2 players)

    Turn: (t2720) J (2 players)

    River: (t2720) 6 (2 players)

    Final Pot: t2720
Hero has Ac JavaScript (full house, jacks full of sixes).
CO has 4s 4h (two pair, jacks and sixes).
    Outcome: Hero wins t2720.

    The very next hand...

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (7 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    Hero (t2720)
    BB (t4635)
    UTG (t3115)
    MP1 (t1465)
    MP2 (t4385)
    CO (t4020)
    Button (t6660)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, A.
    1 fold, MP1 raises to t1465, 3 folds. Hero ????

    What would you do here?

Honestly.. I would've folded there. Sometimes, you feel entirely obligated to such a hand and it is incredibly tempting... but yeah, I would've folded. But honestly, it would all depend on the player and what they have been doing. You have to watch out for them for clues. It could definitely be a trap.

MP1 had tightened up a bit from the way he was playing earlier in the tournament. Earlier, he certainly was capable of pushing with a wide variety of hands. The last action I saw from him before this hand was a raise from the CO (BB was 150, he raised to 450). Everyone folded. He folded preflop every hand between that one and the one I posted.

    I'd call so fast.

He has 7bb's left so will probably push any pair/any ace/any 2 face cards. You only have 1 player left to act after you so thats a +ve
If you do lose a flip you'll still have around 6bb left yourself having just paid both blinds

You have to call here. At this point in a tourney when he has an M of <5 you can't be waiting for hands better than AK.
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.

I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

Agreed, especially when ur M is only 9. Sure ur not desperate yet but you will be soon and it's worth taking a shot to build your stack now while you have a pretty good chance!

Normally, this is an easy call for me. But something was telling me that this wasn't the best time.

    A. I had just doubled up and was almost out of the red zone.
    B. Blinds were 100/200 and they stay the same for the next round (25 ante added)
    C. I'm probably in a coinflip situation. I win, I'm back in the pack. I lose, I'm back where I was 4 hands ago.

Normally, I don't take a lot of time making a decision, but this one caused me to call time. I ended up folding because I wanted to wait until I was more of a favorite to win the hand.

MP1 ended up going all in the next hand with AJ and was called by AT and 99. AT and 99 both hit boats and MP1 was done. Stay tuned for my next hand from this tourney.

    .

    A. What happened previous is irrelevent, if its a good call its a good call. Not calling because your having a few good hands is like some kind of backwards tilt.
    B. Again, doesnt make a difference, the call is +ev
    C. Thats not true, in his position he could be pushing any A in which case youre a huge favourite or 2 broadway cards and your in front there too.

This is a tournament and not a cash game. You are correct to turn down slightly +EV situations if you feel you could get a higher +EV situation later on. Your M and your M on the next blind level are factors worth considering.

He did't say I thought I'd be a coinflip and so folded cos I never win a coinflip goddamit. That would be a tilt induced play.

At this point in tourney, wota, I'm not turning down any +EV situations I get. Especially with this premium hand.

Best case scenario, you're dominating...worst case you're flipping. But more than likely, you're at least 60/40 here.

EDIT: Just noticed your post up above, saying pretty much the same thing. I knew you was g00t, haha.
