This is a tough situation. He is definitely playing this as if he is ahead even though you have hit top two pair on the flop.
I dont put him on an eight unless he was stupid enough to call your big raise on the turn. Depending on the stats of this player i would have more than likely called his massive raise on the river.
Would like to hear what everyone else has to say

Trying to put myself in his position, I'm thinking that the 8 gave him the boat, moreso than trips. The bet on the flop is him trying to see where he is and the call of the re-raise on the turn, rather than a re-raise seems to be trying to keep the pot small because he's fearing you hit the straight.
The second eight pretty much nulifies his fears, unless you have AA, which is unlikely because of your PF play. I'm thinking he's on TT or JJ.

I think you made a good fold, I don't see much that you beat other than some sort of missed draw trying to bluff river.
You know what to do on the flop.... so I won't say it.Could god microwave a burrito so hot, that he himself could not eat it?

I know, I know....raise the flop. It was one of those moves you regret as soon as you make it. I'm more interested in the river play.

I'm calling that river. Hands like AQ, AK, 99, busted fd are all consistent with the play, trying to keep the pot small then take it away from you on the river. There's plenty you beat here, i think you've got good enough odds to call.
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

Call that river. Nothing beats you, except AJ really. TT is possible but somewhat unlikely.
