No specific reads on the villain before this hand, still early on in the tourney. Am I pushing too soon? Would a bet of 500 be better on the turn here? I was convinced he'd call, very surprised in the end.

Pushing the set too soon?
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

Anytime I flop a set, I like do like to go out with a strong bet...especially when there's a flush draw out there. So, I like your betting and re-raising on the flop.
I don't know if small bet on the turn would have had a difference result. Once he raised and you re-raised, he probably knew you had him beat. He may have been on a flush draw, may of had a weak King...I don't know...but after you re-raised him, I think he knew you had him beat, he was just hoping to catch something on the turn that would improve his hand. So, I don't think a smaller bet would have gotten you anymore action. With two-spades out there I think you had to push and make him pay if he was on a flush draw.

lead 80 on the flop. from there if you get raised, things work out in such a way so that a push on the turn is more like 1/2 pot rather than full. as played, yeah i'd bet a little less on the turn but a player who's not dumb will realize you're effectively all in and treat your bet appropriately, so i doubt there's really too much difference. if it was me though, i'd bet 666.
