Ok I was in the VC student poker championship qualifier freeroll, roughly 200 people with the winner getting a seat to the online semi-final later on in the year. Anyway, got to the final table and the last 7, blinds were 1600/3200, I had a stack of 79k which was about 4th. The table was pushing alot but not many were getting called, I had been incredibly tight (mainly cos I was card dead, but they didn't know that). No specific reads on the villain in this hand.
I got JJ in middle position and raised 4xBB up to 16k. One caller who had me just covered.
Flop comes Th 7h Kd
He checks, what should I do here?
Edit: call was from the BB

For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

JJ is a strong hand with only one over card. You need to know where you stand at this point. I would lead out with a probe bet, somewhere around 35%-60%, tending towards 35% of the pot. Strength PF combined with a tight image should pick up the pot right there.
If I'm called, I'll check behind on a blank turn.
A check raise from villain, likely all in, on the flop will have me laying down the hand.If you are one in a million, there's eight just like you in Manhattan.

Shove and take it down. Even in a total donkfest, no reason to raise to more than 10k preflop, Then you can bet 12k'ish on a flop like this and get away, but even then a large pot-committing bet isn't bad. you probably have the best hand and you don't wanna give him CR-fold equity with a draw.

Ok I called and he showed KhQh which couldn't be much worse, gg. Barely anything left I was out next hand.
See what your saying about the smaller PF raise but am I not risking pricing people in with a vulnerable hand? I wanted to take the pot without seeing a flop and if I give the blinds odds to call I won't know where I'm at.For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
