Fire another bet on the river?

Take the check down, only thing I think you might get called by that doesn't beat you is 1010, 99 or 67 all of which are very unlikely. That 8 is a gay card for you.
EDIT: Whoops 67 beats you.Last edited by WeakTight; 11-06-2006 at 09:39 AM.

He may have called a small bet but I like the check on the river. You bet and the villain comes over the top of you, what are you going to do? He may have called another $400 on the river but unless you're able to put him on EXACTLY AK then I don't think its worth the risk.

I concur. Only think that's calling you on the river has you beat. Plus he could check raise you out with nothing if he's good.

The reason I know betting that river would be the wrong thing to do, is because it is something I would have done a year ago. Everything I done in that period was wrong, so it makes an easy bench mark for me
It's also tough to put him on AK the way he called your flop & turn raise with nothing.
The tourney just started (t20 blind), you got 1/3 of his chips, no need to get fancy, just drag a pot and get on with the next hand.

All that beats you would be a 67s, A8, 78, and 89 if you figure he's raising 4x preflop this light.
I'd bet 400 on the river for value. He'll call with Ace high, let alone 99, 77, and 66. People have called these river to me with KQ and KJ, too. I'm not gonna believe that he was this passive with a hand that beats you. It's rare enough for this bet to have value.

I agree in principle, especially if we know we were up against solid players. However, with with online play, and the tourney just starting the players are so unpredictable. I see people raise PF with any garbage, and slow play a lucky flop as your raising into him. After he checked on the river, and 1/3 of his chips are in, I'm happy to get to the next hand after not approving my PP.
