Default How to play this AK on (near) the bubble

I'm sorry I don't have any hand history for this..

10 seat $5 SnG, 5 handed, 2 very short stacks (approx. 3x BB). My stack is about 4500, in 2nd place.

I get dealt AKos in the BB (blinds are 100 and 200), a guy raises to 600 under the gun and it's folded round to me. The last time he made this raise he had 10s. What do I do? I've got this guy covered but by only about 700 and there are 2 players on the brink of elimination.

I normally like to re raise with AK so I made it 1400 and he instantly went all in. Should I have folded here and saved my chips? If I call and lose I'm very short stacked. Personally I like to go for the win and I called knowing at worst it was probably a coin flip but should I have waited until the short stacks were busted?

    Result:
He turned over 8s which held up. I was crippled but thanks to good old pocket deuces ( ) I doubled up and held on for 3rd.

    Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

    Here is the thing:

First, if you raise with any hand, you should know what you are going to do if you ger re-raised. So dont raise if you dont know whether you will call a re-raise or not.

Second, I dont like going against a big stack toward the end of tournament when I have a big stack myself too.

Third, he raised from under the gun. So you should have given him some respect. Even if you knew he had low pair and it was a coin flip situation you should have tried to avoid that. Mainly because you are playing a tournament not a cash game and your chips are VERY valuable.

Now, to your specific hand: I would have flat called the raise and see the flop. If i dont flop an Ace, or King, or a very strong draw, I would check-fold.

    Cheers,
    Nima

Normaly with 2 short stacks like that a raise from UTG means he is ready to go all the way with his hand!

So the best play here would have been to flat call and then hope to hit the flop...

    He had about 3800.

Thanks nima, to be honest flat calling to see the flop was what I felt I should have done afterwards cos let's face it I'm not laying this down in my BB to a small raise.
I tend to go out too often on the bubble from a strong position because of getting myself in to big pots pre flop! Definitely something I need to try and avoid.

That's a large portion of your stack. If UTG was a maniac, I'd push because we have re-raise fold equity and we'd be ahead of his range. Otherwise, I just take a flop. Even if you hit the flop and get no action, there's 900 in the pot to be won for 400 more preflop. Good enough value for AK and nice stack.

That said, I suck at Sit n' Gos. So, I wouldn't take my advice on this. The excessive marginal +EV preflop aggression confuses me.
