Hello all,
I just want some feedback on a hand I played which serverly cut my chip lead and lead to my eventual bowing out of the tournament.
There are 4 players left and 5 places are payed so I am already in the money. I had 7,9 unsuited in the small blind (600 chips) and called the big blind for 600 extra. Big blind checks, at this point I had approx 27000 in chips and big blind had approx 18000.
The flop comes 6,8,6. I bet the flop with a open ended straight draw with 1200 and was subsequently raised to 5000 by the big blind. At this point I knew he had a 6 but I thought the odds were good for me so I went "all in" hoping to either scare him off or outdraw him with a straight. He called and I didnt improve on the turn or river.
Did I play this hand correctly? Im thinking I was stupid to play this hand the way I did - Some good advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Kit

2 things
1. this belongs in poker strategy
2. why would you push all in if you think they have a 6? with blinds that big im not sure anyone in their right mind would fold..

I would have folded the SB, no point wasting them on a longshot, especially 4 still in (heads up would be a different story).

Ok, here's my take for what it's worth, which might not be much.lol
You don't say what your chip stack was in relation to the other players, other than you had the BB coverd. Assuming you weren't just dominated by the other two players, I don't mind (too much) the orginal call with 7-9. I'd probably fold but it might be worth seeing a flop, especially if you had a decent read on the type of player the BB is. Now that you've called the BB, you hit an good flop, about as good as you can hope for. however I do not like the board pairing like that. Not only does it leave your oppent a better chance for a set, it could easily lead him into a full house.
Great bet on the flop, but here is where I feel it all goes down hill. At this point, his raise is troubling. It would be a hard call to make unless you felt he too was drawing or if it was a bluff. You have a great drawing hand but you could make your hand and still be beat. I think this is where it comes down to your read on the player and you said he felt he had the 6. Since you felt he had the 6, I think you lay the hand down and be glad you lost as little as possible. However, if you knew this guy was loose-agressive and you expected that kind of re-raise from him, then I might not mind your all-in push as much.
I think it comes down to the fact I wasn't there to see the whole thing and know the othe player. For this is one of those "it depends" answers.lol Basically, I'll say this.....if you think he has the 6, fold and you only lost 1,800. If you think he has a small pocket pair, maybe paired with the board, or is bluffing, push it all in.
Good hand for discussion though!

Wow, Marm is so right! I thought for some reason, he bet the pot, not the min. The min. bet there is, in my opinion, a very bad mistake which screams weakness.

you should have bet more than 1200 after the flop or just checked

tag is right the all-in raise doesn't make sense. You may even get called by A8 and lose the hand more often than not.
