The first hand is actually a worse loss than the second one.

wow, ridiculous. I know one thing for sure, unless its late in a tourney I wont go all in preflop with anything. Cash game or early in a tournament its much easier to trap and outplay them on the flop,turn, river than it is to just let the cards decide it and get all your money in pre-flop.
