Default Who wants to hear something disgusting?

So seeing as I don't play enough poker any more to get any bad beats I really give a shit about, I thought I would relate this story.

At my local casino they have a poker "bad beat" jackpot which is handed out if Aces full of Tens gets beat by four of a kind or better, and both hole cards have to play from both players. The beaten players gets 60%, the winner get 20%, and the table splits the remaining 20%.

The guy sitting at my $40NL table told me this story:
Playing the $100NL. He was holding TT, there was a raise PF, he reraises, guy calls, pot is ~$100. Both players have about $400 behind. Flop comes AAA, other guy goes all-in for $400ish. Guy figures he is beat, folds his TT. Other guy shows AQ, meaning that if the turn and river came no K then the jackpot hits. Guy with TT can't call because he figures he is beat by JJ, QQ, KK which means no jackpot, or at best the guy had Ace rag, meaning his kicker probably wouldn't have played.

Value of the Jackpot? $100,000. So because of one of the dodgiest plays I have ever heard of this guy get screwed out of $60k. 600 buy-ins. Also the guy w/ AQ screws himself out of $20k.

Hmmmmmm. As a casino poker room rat, i've heard this urban myth or a variation of it a few times before. If it happened, then the guy with a quads is the idiot. He has the quads on the turn and pushes all in? Anyone with a bit of skill (which u would assume at a 100NL table), would sit (check) and hope someone hits second best on the turn, or even on the river for that matter. Betting on the flop here with an unbeatable will never generate any more money than is currently in the pot (which already belonged to the AAAA).

Your playing partner just spinning a fun tale. Thats part of the fun of playing at brick and morter sites.

My immediate thoughts on the story were that it was bullshit, but he seemed genuinely pissed off. He said he left the table for a half-hour to cool down after that.

I never senced the need to lie about my plays / other games . I really don't understand why people lie about these things. Is it like fishing? Do people feel the need to say they caught the biggest fish ever? Do they need to say they saw one friend catching the loch ness monster or saw it? It seems ridiculous to me...

It makes em feel like the old grizzed war veteran who "has seen it all". If it doesn't affect your table play, it's harmless. The fisherman analogy is pretty spot on with poker stories.

I guess it's always about wanting to be what you really aren't, isn't it? Oh well, you see this kind of people all the way... why not in poker?
