Angry are pot odds ruining poker?

O.K. I am sitting in the bb. We are still on level 1 on a large tournament. I am dealt a,t suited. I know the guy on the button will push all-in because he just lot half of his stack by calling all the way to showdown with 3rd pair. Ywo players limp in and he pushes all-in for 740. I have 1500 chips and in an attempt not to look weak I push all-in rather than just calling. The first limper folds and the 2nd limpers calls(mind you the blinds are @10/20). He was 170 chips left after calling and I see 5,4 offsuit. Realzing that this is such a bad call i am starting to feel sick. The guy on the button has k,q offsuit a stronger hand than i thought he'd push with but i am not worried because his hole cards will complete a straight for me. I am more worried about the 5,4 off donkey. The flop comes a predictable 6,7,8 and I am drawing to a 9 only. The turn and river comes a,a. I hit trips but it doesnt matter and I am out of the tournament. Rather than blowing up and going into my helmuth blow-up. I tell myself that he called for very bad pots odds and he felt committed after calling the 20 chips for the blind. I observe the goofball laughing and saying thats poker while the other tables players tell him gh,vnh. Neither of which is true. He donkied out. Was the guy out of line for calling with his hand? I feel that to call with a hand like his you show a lack of respect to the game and you deserve to lose and be ridiculed publically. Surprisingly I took the lost very well as I realize that this is why I cant win low limit pokers. Too many goofballs calling to get lucky rather than because they have a quality start hand. You play a hand like 5,4 to see a cheap flop. Not when you have to call an all-in with it on level 1.

I didn't read all of that, but LOL @ the title of this thread.

OK. I just read it. Tell your friend I said, "nh"

Bad beats happen. He's allowed to do what he wants with his chips.

Jay-money, if this is truly the way you feel then you are missing some of the most fundamental realities of the game of poker. I would suggest you go back to basics and read a few books that speak of the basic mathematical structure of Texas Hold'Em. If you still think this way after that you should certainly quit poker. Or for the rest of our sake continue playing.

Yeah. That's a lot of chips with AT. Don't get wrapped up in the "romanticism of the respect for the game" because someone wants to gamble it up.

I knew that my AT had the guy on the button beat and i went all-in with the better hand. After all isn't the goal to get your money in with the best hand? The third guy into the pot was the fool and he ended up getting rewarded. If you dont like it then read another post and comment there but this is the palce where you list your bad beat story. There is no way I am going to ever be the 3rd person in an all-in pot with 5,4 off unless it will only cost me 3% of my stack at the very most. If i roll over just because someoen pushes all-in when I rightly feel that I have the best hand then i shouldnt be playing poker. Those books have very little basis for the speed tournaments. Those books are for people that start off with at least 100X the bb where the blinds go up evry hour versus every 15 mins where you are forced into the action. my move was the right move to force a heads up pot which I would have won with 3 aces. Maybe you would agree more if i had pockets aces and turned a set and still lost. Then you would say there is no way you can lay down aces. No matter how you look at it I had 3 aces and I bet enough to get out weak hands like 5,4 off you are clearly missing the point.

Why are you pushing all your chips in so early in the tournament anyway? There is no need to gamble so early on, wow big deal you double up and have a more than average 3000chip stack, if you lose your out!! There are more reasons why you should be folding here, even if you do suspect you have the best hand.

I guess that's what forums are for.. n00bs to post their bad play stories (notice I dont call this a bad beat)

If the blinds were 200/400... maybe (likely not then either).. but there was only 60 chips in the pot other than his push... let it go, wait for a better time

Wait, didn't you reply to superskid saying you want to be part of his team of superior players? If that doesn't work out, you should see if the Young Guns are looking for a new member.
