Steve-O's 3 card poker bad beat
I said I would post this story in another thread, but it's good enough to get it's own thread I think.
After about 12 hours of cards I was winding down the night with a little 3 card poker. My friend, down about 5 grand at blackjack comes over and wants to play behind me since there are no open seats and I'm on fire at this table. The whole time I have been joking with the old ladies, telling em, I'm the casino host and such. Every time they hit a good hand I tell them to go to the buffet and it's on the house. The dealers are laughing, even the pit boss is laughing and watching the game. I gave each one an extra $25 to bet each time I hit the 3 of a kinds, so the Grandmas love me.
I'm up nicely from poker and even nicer from 3 card poker, I have already hit 3 of a kind twice with $25 bets. 3 of a kind pays 30 to 1. In addition to a run of 5 consecutive straights at 6 to 1.
Back to my friend, I cash in his $$$$ and I turn to ask him what he wants me to bet? He says, "bet the max" which at 3 card is $300, so his bet would be $275. "Before I have the chips from the dealer he says "Hey, do you have any small bills for the waitress?" so I go rooting through my pocket, hand him a couple of singles, and turn back around to see cards being dealt with only my $25 bet up and my friends $1,000 off to the side! My friend says, "just wait til next hand".
At this point I have a bad feeling in my stomach and say, "it would suck if I have a straight flush (40 to 1)" I quickly look and see the 6, 8, 7 of spades in that order, I will never forget those cards or the look on my friends face.
It was the worst $1,000 I have ever won. All the white hairs start clapping and saying "wow" and "terrific" and I was absolutely disgusted. He took a $11,000 bad beat because he asked me for some small bills, yuck.
