Unhappy Break Time

So I basically fucked myself over and over again with my money and the constant bad beats certainly do not help.

For those that have been following my pissing and moaning, I turned $10 into well over $400 in less than a week. I was on top of the world and should've cashed out $300 or so and been satisfied. But I wasn't. So while I built my BR on $5 & $10 SnG's (and help from 8th place in a $30 buy-in tournie that netted me $200), I went through it in the exact same amount of time through $20 SnG's and tournament buy-ins.

Yes, I got over-zealous and decided to play outside of my BR. Yes, that was dumb and the main reason my BR is now obsolete. And yes, I'm going to look into and find a way for this not to happen again.

But the amount of fish and against-the-odds calls that have sucked out on me have driven me over the edge with pokerroom! I should've viewed this site's reviews first and noticed how shitty it just really is. As easy it is to increase your roll, it is even easier to lose it when people are calling bets they shouldn't be calling!

And I've heard the, "well, if people continue to do that you will in the long-run, win."

With this site, that is the farthest thing from the truth. It's just suckout after suckout after suckout with pokerroom because most of them REALLY don't know what the fuck they're doing.

So I'm taking my lousy $94 I have left and withdrawing EVERY LAST DOLLAR from that wretched site and taking 2 weeks or so off from playing. I think I will be tilting that long.

I had pretty good success on UB before the crash and may go back there but will more than likely go to PS or Party.

Delete this, spam this, flame me, whatever. I had to.

Sean,

I feel for you.

I don't feel you are being honest though. Suckouts are brutal, but SnG players are bad everywhere.

One of two things are happening, or maybe a combination.

1. you are not a good as you think - we never are when we are winning.

2. you are not using proper BR managment

Take some time off. Maybe try one of the tribeca sites and play some $2 SnGs when you come back.

If you think the loose SnGs are killers, wait until you play a bunch of tight ones. You are probably taking risks and making moves that you shouldnt.

You've had the exact same pokerroom experience I did.
I turned $50 into $600 and then lost it all. After a couple small deposits, I did it again.....$50 into $600. This time I thought I was the king of poker and so I moved up to the $10-$20 SNGs and $1bb ring games and lost it all in 2 weeks.

Finally, after losing all that money, I learned my lesson and heeded the advice of those on this site. I moved over to pokerstars, started playing the $0.02-$0.05 tables and have started playing winning poker.

Beavis, I believe it is more of #2. Now, I don't think I'm the best poker player, never have. I do like to think I make more right decisions than wrong though and that's how I built up my roll so quickly. I also think that I began playing poorer after it was built BECAUSE I already had it.

You're probably right there, I probably eased off and stopped thinking everything through after I had already won the money.

And the bankroll issue is a big one. I was rolled for mostly $5 SnG's and maybe a $10 here and there. But I ended up finishing on the bubble in 3 straight $20 ones. That's a loss of $60 in about 2 hours. Then I would win a $20 which gave me back $100, and did it all again .

I'm going to take some time off to finish reading HoH and The Theory of Poker then come back and a pick to stay at and grind at.

Play the 10c SnGs on Doyles. The players have to be worse there than the $5 players at PokerRoom. If you can't beat those your doing something wrong.

Your 90 something BR is a very nice size for the games on Doyles. Play there and learn how to beat the small SnGs. I suggest play 10c until you can beat them, then move up until you start to have problems. It won't build your roll very quickly, but it will build your skill.

I loved HoH for MTTs, but I think it messed up my SnG game a bit.

I think you have a good point there Beav because before reading HoH, I was wrecking the $5 and $10 SnG's as shown by my roll. Then I started reading HoH and it tightened up probably not for the better.

I did a MTT yesterday and finished in 23 out of 286 (top 20 paid) and I was able to stay ahead of the blinds consistently and continually take down pots. But with the time decrease in SnG blinds I need to be looser I feel.

And Rog, it's not because I can't beat those SnG's because I have and did very good. But then I started HoH and can't seem to play like I used to when I WAS sucking out and doubling up early and beating SnG's.

HoH isn't exactly a great book for SnGs.

It's a great MTT book though.

Anything good out there on SnG's??

Honestly, I don't like them but I play them when I don't have time for a full-fledged MTT. I'd much rather put $5 into a tournie where I can win $600+ and smart poker keeps you around for a while than put $5 into a SnG to make a quick $25-30 where you have to play much looser.

If you don't enjoy them and they are not profitable don't play them. Try ring games.

To beat SnGs you have to know how to play full handed/shorthanded/headsup.

If you can't play those pretty good SnGs will be difficult. SnGs and MTTs are entirely different animals.
