Hey I curious what you guys would do in this situation.
Preflop someone raises $10 and 4 people call. Flop goes
J 10 K (rainbow)
I have Q J. So I have mid pair and need an ace for a straight. Some one raises 20 and I am next to act... raise? call? bet?

dont get into a position where you are with 5 people in a hand...
So don't call preflop, either raise or fold, same goes for the flop

Fold preflop, or smooth call and pray for an ace. You're drawing to a split if he popped the nuts.

Fold... That many people in the hand and double the last bet he abviously has a K and is chasing out other players who are on a draw. Also four callers strong poss one A out there which is one of your outs.

depends on your table image I would have played your hand only in POSITION...were you in position? If the table was tight I would have most likely gone over the top and put the guy to a decision for atleast 1/3rd his stack. If the table were loose I would have folded it no two ways about it. I know its kind of opposite way of thinking but it worked for me in a 1/2 game a couple of days ago. People were playing super tight and I literally played any two cards.

This is a perfect spot for a semi-bluff IF you have position on the post-flop aggressor AND the stacks are fairly deep. I probably pop this to 65-70 repping a big hand and either take the freecard on the turn or continue semi-buffing. hitting your hand is actually going to kill the action since you have a four card straight, and a Jack is actually a better card for you if you think your opponent has a hand like AK.
If I raise and get re-raised I'll probably let the hand go unless I'm priced-in and against someone who may call down if I make a straight --but keep in mind that AQ is well within someone's range here.... And yes, more details would allow for more detailed analysisRead my musings on poker and life at PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

"So much missing info...."
yes, .. yep, ...spot on. without that info, red/blue pill situation.
but, we have a chance to fill in the blanks with imagination! stick with me, I read a book.
"Preflop someone raises $10 and 4 people call. "...
Ok, iffin raise to 10, worst case, blinds 5/10, and min raise???
someone raises $10? wtf is that? betting and raising in poker has a slight semantic issue here. what does "raises x" mean?
is x the amount "they" are betting? or the amount "they" are raising? nevermind, let's imagine a possible situation, blinds 1/2, someone raises to 10(total). Ok, we already know, 4 callers, including poster, who has QJ, but imagine, we only know 1/2 raised to 10. Someone raised, can't be the blinds, and there is another caller, and "they". So either "they", or other player raised to 10. Let's imagine the other player "open raises to 10(total)"....:
"and 4 people call."
Ok, not enuff info.
who what where why and how
