Interested to know if you guys thought this qualified as a hero call or not! Live game, blinds 50p/£1. I'd not been hitting anything all night, and had been making some cracking folds, but my buy in had gone from £150 down to about £80 by this hand.
I'd only seen two showdowns with villian (I'd folded top pair to his bottom set and he showed) and he'd been beat out of a £60 pot pre-flop showing 78 suited.
Onto the hand...
I was on the button, one limper from MP, villain limped in Hijack and came to me with 10,10. I raised £6, MP folded and villain called. (£14 in the pot)
Flop was 2 J 6 rainbow.
Villain bet £5, I called.
Turn 2 J 6 J (different suits - no possibility of flush)
Villain bet £5, I called.
River 2 J 6 J J
Then villain did a very strange thing.... pot was £34, he went all in and had me covered (so I had probably another £40 or so to put in)
thoughts please gentlemen.....

Hero Call?

I'd call. His line is so full of crap, especially since you suggest his action now is different from his value lines.

Any other opinions? I'm keen to know if this was an obvious call, obvious fold, or borderline....

I agree ^^ I call. How many hands does he really have here? I'm pretty sure Qs+ raise pre, so I don't think he's got a better boat.
I can definitely see him limping in with Jx (AJ, KJ, QJ, JT, etc), but there is only one J in the deck (and does he really limp/call?). So unlikely in my opinion that I call. Bad beat if he's got it obv.
After looking at the hand again, it's almost like he's blocker betting....like he's got 9s, 8s, 7s, etc...just trying to get to showdown...maybe his shove is for thin value verses A / K high? Plenty of those hands in your range I'm sure on the button.

Gentlemen, you've made me feel much better. I put him on a lower pair to be honest...it was exactly the kind of bet that made me think he's just hit a worse boat than me.
I called...he showed A J for quads!
I was beating myself up over that for days afterwards!

Okay just going to input my 2cents...
Limping pre flop looks like 10J JQ, K10 Kj type of hand...
When he bets £5 into £15 I'd say he's probably testing the water to see how good his TPTK is. By flatting you're telling him exactly what he wants to know.
When he bets £5 on the turn, he's betting because he wants you to re-raise him with an over/under pair because he looks like he is making a weak c-bet.
You may say, well why wouldnt he check his trips... Well if you're calling the flop he knows you're happy with what you have, so why check the turn when one J didnt scare you, why would a second J scare you?
And for the fact that he had qauds on the river...
And he over bet -
Two words 'Thin Value'
he's making like the thinest value bet ever...
He plays just like the chinese players in London town, They bet small small small and then fire the river... its either a bluff or they have it, and they almost always get paid because you believe its a bluff.
Like Knight said, his line was so crap... Yeah it was, but he thin value bet the river which looks like a bluff, and he gets paid off.
Your brain is telling you the whole time, hes bluffing hes bluffing hes bluffing so you call.
then you go to the cash machine.
I havent seen what hand he had yet, so im going to look after this post.
BUT I GARUNTEE HE HAD AT LEAST J-10!!
Poker: Am I still gambling if I have the nuts?

It's funny how lines become obvious after the event...I was furious with myself for paying him off....I felt like he had a jack all the way through, but the river J made me think, there's no way he's got one...what are the chances?! Do you not think it's worth the call to catch all those pairs lower than 10's? He definately didnt have QQ - AA... I could imagine him doing the same with a raggy 6....

I really think the call is fine -- one J left in the deck and I truly think a better boat (which means better pair) 3-bets pre.
And 'thin value' in this case can easily be against ace or king high, considering the board -- or even against small pairs. So I really don't know if you could fold a boat here. You would really need a solid read IMO.

I'd call too. The bets are so out of whack, I wouldn't even second guess it.
