Default play AK out of position

what do you think specially about my river bet?
it was intended to be a defensive bet, and I'd probably fold to a raise (I can't think of a hand he'd raise with and I'd beat... and it would be a very weird spot to bluff)

    * I had only 14 hands played, so it's not very significative... but he was 47/0

    EDIT: I'll post results later

reload pre, but looks good. definitely not checking any street vs a 47/0 (even though its over 14 hands, the fact its full ring makes it more significant).

and yes if he raises river it's aces up or better and nearly never a bluff.

Him being a station like he was the entire hand leads me to believe that he either has a straight draw or a pair of queens... since none of the cards there are all that dangerous, and a river value bet can be called by hands you beat I think this was played fine... you didn't give him a free card and you kept the initiative... that said I agree with piv that a bluff raise will never be made in this case.. and if you get raised you can fold without any doubt that you were beat...

just to make this super clear for your benefit, if he calls $7 w/ QTo he probably calls $9.75, which in your case is 11bbs of value.

    value = money

if you LOSE value, you are, by definition, LOSING money

one of the most important things you will learn in poker.

Hmmm...I think I need to grow some balls for cash games! I would have checked on the turn trying to keep the pot small, so I am wandering if I play too tight. As played I would have certainly checked the river, scared of a big re-raise and looking for a cheap showdown. I must admit, I am struggling to transition to cash games. In a tournament I would have been in there quicker than a rat up a drainpipe! I'm going to post another hand involving AK, I would be interested to know if I played that too tight!

I think checking the turn is a mistake
in this flop, you're usually only beaten by A9 and Q9
and A2 and 22 in the turn

he probably would have reraised with 99 or AQ (maybe)

considering he's a 47/0, TJ or Q8+ are way more in his range then an A (also considering that you hold an A, and the board has an A)... so you don't wanna give a free card to this range

You posted his hand too soon - I'll ignore the results as best I can.
I agree with the flop and turn bets but personally would have checked-called the river. Two reasons:
    1. if he has me beat I call his bet and not his re-raise - saves me $$ and
    2. as a bluff catcher - if was playing a draw or 2nd pair I give him the chance to bluff me off the pot.

Betting the river with just TPTK vs a calling stn can and will cost you more value than ck-calling it. Another important thing you learn in cash game poker is that $ saved are just as important as $ won!! That's from 'Harrington on Cash Games' btw..
