    Default Is top pair good?

So I was playing Rush Poker at Full Tilt.

I was in SB with JT (cant remember whether it was suited)

    cutoff raised 3times big blind.

    I called. BB called.

    Flop came JT8

I checked, BB checked, cutoff bet a fair amount.

I reraised, he reraised all in, I called.

    He turned over 88.

    His trips held up.

Did I make the correct decision?

When he bet I was pretty sure I had him beat, I raised knowing there was that straight draw out there.
When he reraised I was thinking there was a better possibility he had an overpair then trips.

    Any thoughts?

That is pretty bad... You shouldn't being calling raises like that in the SB with junk hands. Unless of course you have some history with the villain. As played with top 2 I don't mind getting it in here I guess.. You're beat by JJ, TT, 88, Q9, and 97...overall just fold preflop.

Pre depends on what kind of villain BB is. If he's squeezy/aggro, fold.
If he's loose/passive or a nit who will never squeeze, calling pre is okay if it was JTs. I'd lean towards 3b or fold pre though, which really depends on villain's f3b.

Getting it in postflop is std.

Thank you for the help guys!

I don't really see a problem calling with JT considering he was in the cutoff. If it was an early raise or something I would have folded.

I think you have played the hand correctly.. Most of the time you would have won that hand

Well played hand IMO. The odds were on your side there.

you need to NOT slow play a hand like that! if you had a draw may be correct to make a check but on a rainbow flop like that a check is definetly wrong. You shold have bet on the flop and get a read about the time and call or raise.
