Tell me what you guys think of this hand. If i played it correctly.. This is at a live game at the casino.. 1/2NL I have about 300 in my stack.
First off. I am a tight player, and I mix it up from time to time... I just got back into the game recently. No money, got back into school etc.. working 2 jobs.. No time...
anyways.. I am trying to build up a BR.. started off a couple weeks ago with 300, up to 900. Going to put another 300 or so into the BR next week. I usually buy in with 100, and once i drop down to 60 i rebuy to get me up to the 100.00 marker again.
Thats another story... On with the hand.
300 in front of me.
early / mid position
Call 2$ w/ Q 8 suited clubs
BB raises to 9$ (he is a semi loose player)
I call. Everyone folds
Flop
9h Jc 3c
BB bets out 15.00
(about 24 in pot)
I call
Turn
blank..
BB bets out 25
I raise to 75.
BB calls and didn't have 50 behind . so is all in
River came another blank.
I ended up losing the hand... He ended up having QJo (raised BB w/ it) My main mistake I didn't realize is that he did not have chips behind him for the call so he was committed.
My question. Did I play this hand totally wrong? If he had more chips would it have been a good raise? Should I have raised the flop? Should I have folded the flop? If someone could give some input it would be greatly appreciated.

Buy in for 100BBs unless everyone has ~$50.
Don't limp.
Don't play crap from early position.
Raise and try to get it in on the flop 'cos you're golden against a live donk's range.

If you feel like mixing it up then better to raise preflop than to take the fishy limp-call line, especially from your position where a raise will most likely come from someone who has position on you. Also I think the flop is the best place for a semibluff. Your hand loses a lot of value after a blank turn so you need to have a good reason to believe BB will fold to your raise for this to be worth it. Overall I'd say you got this hand wrong because you played passive when aggressive would have better then used your aggression in the least effective spot. Also staying aware of the stack sizes at the table is important in live play. Normally I like to do a quick count around the table after folding hands like Q8s from early/mid position

Given his stack size there is no reason to not get this in on the flop as played.
Fold preflop.Best Current Ongame Deal.
