Im thinking a lot of time he folds here to a raise. If you just call what if the turn comes a blank and he bets again? Being the aggressor is the best strategy usually.

Raising to see where you stand kinda tilts me, but I think it's ok as long as you have some other merit to it. Like maybe you can fold out pair hands or maybe get the odd call from a draw which your high card might be ahead of, then you can kinda define their range a bit more in later streets. That's the flop I'm talking about. I prefer just calling this flop.

Raising the turn, I don't think accomplishes much. He'll fold a pair under a queen and there's not a ton of river cards we're afraid of, plus a raise basically tells him we have a decent Qx hand or a 7 so he gets to play too correctly against us. Also just calling lets him bluff his air on the river sometimes or feel committed to getting valuetowned with his 88.

I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.
