Neither is likely.

Id fold turn or river as played but I also lead flop. I like lead flop, lead turn and check-call safe river to get value from missed draws, assuming a set isnt slowplaying twice on a drawy board.
all the draws missed, calling flop and turn just to c/f this river makes no sense at all.

op, i would usually lead out on the flop, but given that you checked i think check/call on turn and river is good. both lines are +EV, but in general i think the aggressive line will win you more money in the long run.

isnt this a good example of controlling the pot as in we're keeping it relatively small by not allowing him to reraise etc..

But we have no idea where we stand. We also let him check behind hands he might call a bet with, and on the flipside risk him bluffing us off the best hand, especially if scare cards come.

This is a pretty good example of why pot control is easier in position.
