Default 100nl 3bet Laggy guy, shitty flop

Villain is 50/20/10 over 40 hands. I don't have any real postflop leads, no-one has really taken much of a stand against him. I really don't peg him for a decent player, I think he's just a bit crazy (pf anyway).

Flop play, cbet or check? If he bets are we giving him enough credit for an ace?

EDIT: I'm well aware the 3bet should be bigger pf. Standard would be up to $19, don't know why I did this one.

$0.50/$1 No Limit Holdem
5 players
Converted at weaktight | fold when you know you're beat (BETA)

Stacks:
UTG ($26.45)
CO ($92.50)
BTN ($57.20)
Hero ($108.10)
BB ($103.85)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 5 players) Hero is SB
2 folds, BTN bets $5, Hero bets $17, 1 fold, BTN calls $12.50.

Flop: ($36, 2 players)
Hero ???

I follow up with about 1/2 pot and a good player folds QQ, KK a weak A and those suited connectors he likes to play.

Edit: I see the read... comment stands.

I really think a 1/2 pot sized bet achieves the same as a 2/3 pot sized bet in this spot, so I'd bet probably c-bet this flop too, and be done with the hand.

We're all aware of his stack size right? 100bb this is a standard cbet, but he has like $40 here on the flop.

I think I'd check the flop, and probably fold to a shove. We've invested 17BB's, but will end up making that 57BB's with any action just to find out whether our 2nd pair is good. If you have any notion he is a bad player though, I'd CRAI, as his AF will mean he could bet that flop with a lot of hands, and being a bad player might have called with a lot more hands that you are still ahead of. ie he shouldn't be calling a 3 bet for 20% of his stack with 66 here.

Against an aggressive SS I'd also CRAI with AK here.

Checking is definitely the best play to start with, he is never folding better if you lead out and only rarely calling with a better hand. It gets tricky if/when he bets though. I'd make some sort of a soul read based on bet sizing, timing, and any specific reads on his postflop play from our 40 hands together. FWIW if you check and he shoves I think calling probably isn't bad.

$17 pre flop is usually fine but given his stack size I wouldn't mind something like $21 just to make a flop shove easier.

As it is, I don't think there's any shame in check/folding here without reads.

He's way way too likely to have Ax if he's that loose, and with his stack he's getting it all in after a c-bet.

C/F and cry when he shows you 99.
