Default $40NL cash game

how would you guys play this hand? i think i played it well but was wondering if people would play it differently.

Blinds are $1/$2
UTG
UTG+1
MP+1
MP+2
MP+3
HERO=$120 (TAG)
BUTTON
SB=$400 (LAG)
BB

HERO is the CO and dealt AJo
5 folds, HERO raises $14, button folds, SB calls ($13 more), BB folds.

FLOP: Jd 4c 5s
SB bets $6, HERO raises $20, SB calls
TURN: 8d
SB bets $100 puts HERO all in, HERO calls.
RIVER: 2c

SB shows Kd 6d

i know this is probably an easy call for you pros but this probably the first time that things are really starting to click in my head. before i called and went all in, i was thinking that this LAG probably didn't have anything because of the $6 bet after the flop and the amount of time he took before he calls my raise.. that was the deciding factor for me..

can you guys please analyze and let me know how you guys would've played this hand or if you guys have any tips for me..

Thanks!!!

yeah, everyone bought in full $40..you're right, i guess i'd rather call since i have a read on him as oppose to folding and never know what he had.. sometimes it's just worth it for me i guess..

$40 isn't a full buy in at NL with a $2 big blind.

It could well be for this particular game, casino's do funny shit like this so give the guy a break everyone until you find out the truth.

I was gonna say, I was expecting to see a $0.40 big blind when the title said 40NL, but if the max buy-in truly was $40 then I will say good job sir! I think you played optimally according to your read on him (which is always the important factor of determining whether you are ahead or not). I definitely would have folded against a tighter player but against LAG, TPTK is often the best heads-up.

Don't know why you need hand analysis when you made all the correct decisions AND doubled up, that is what I call a perfect hand (as opposed to doubling up by sucking out, which is -ev)

That doesn't matter. That is being results oriented.

i play at hawaiian gardens casino and they only have 20nl, 40nl, 100nl, 300nl, and above...i've only played on the $40NL and the blinds are 1-2.. i still have a lot of learning to do before i jump on the 100 or 300.

MJPerry - i'm not sure where you play but over here, $40NL table has the BB for $2 and SB at $1 and you can only buy in $40 at the most.

the reason why i posted this thread is because i was wondering if i could've played the hand differently. it took me a while before i called because i was worried he might have flopped a set or 2 pairs since i never know what he has..
