Default NL10 Check-raise bluff

I'd seen this guy take stabs at passive pots three times, twice he got called and both times he had shit, I think bottom pair and Ace high. I called the flop bet because I figured if I hit a 5 and he keeps betting I'm set. If you'll pardon the pun. Plus the is a scary card. Boo.

NL10 and check/raise bluff just don't go together.

What hand are you trying to represent here?

You didn't limp/call with AK and he is unlikely to be scared of the backdoor flush.

Actually I figured A2 or something. At NL10 a lot of people check the street where they hit their hand then bet the next one.

So we're hoping he puts you specifically on A2? Given the image I hope you have at the table this is a long shot!

Haha, I was accounting for him not actually noticing table image. Ah well, my logic made sense at the time.

Best way to play this hand is to check-fold flop. Anyone with a Q or J is almost never folding.

I hate that river play. If you're gonna do that you have to think "what hand will he think I have?" and "will he fold a AQ type of hand?". Since this is nl10 I very much doubt he's even thinking about your hand and there ain't a chance in hell he's folding AQ.

If you're that convinced he bets with shit on that flop then raise it up. I don't like calling as you have no idea where you stand at all.

We could be representing AK here but the problem is that the villain isn't going to fold any Q or J for $2 more and the way the hand was played it's certainly possible that he has AK himself. The key to a good bluff is to set it up early. River bluffing when we haven't shown any strength in the hand is rarely a good idea since the villain doesn't have to fear calling any more bets later on. The hands over at this point and it's only going to cost him $2 more to see a showdown. If I wanted to try and bluff this hand I would have check/raised the flop instead. If the villain calls our flop bet we can either shut down on the turn or take another stab at the pot. To me this would be a much higher percentage play than your check/call/check/check/raise.

Just remember there are only 2 fives left in the deck. At best. Not really worth chasing a set.

No, online poker is rigged, there are at least seven.
