Default Bad spot for a CB?

Villain seems like a solid but aggressive player, 18/14/4. I've only shown down decent hands so far.

yeah i would find a flop cehck here good a lot of the time. not many hands we beat are calling and we are getting action from hands that are way ahead

I almost always cbet here. I hear what bboy says about no worse hands calling, but I think you'll take down the pot a lot of the time as I don't think that flop is likely to have hit him. To me his pre-flop actions lead me to think he has a mid pocket pair 77-JJ. I think he would have let you know pre-flop if he had more based on his stats. If we check we are giving a free card, but more importantly the chance for an aggro villain to take control of the hand.

When he calls your cbet and the 3rd heart falls I would also slow down and check the turn.

- I meant pre-flop read. Once the flop came down I have to admit that it needs re-classifying (from "possible" to "never in this fucking world").

Well we can play the flop 2 ways here and each of them have their pros and cons.

1. Cbet: The thing I like about cbetting here is that we're gonna get some information. If the villain calls, we can re-evaluate the turn. The downside is that we're opening ourselves up for a check raise and like Bboy said, we're really only going to get called by a better hand (although maybe an idiot with a flush draw is going to come along for the ride.)

2. Check: If we check, we won't have to worry about being check raised. So if the villain is slowplaying an A or maybe even a 7, we're giving ourselves a chance to hit a K on the turn and win a big pot. Now I don't know anything about your table image but I have a very aggressive one and so when I raise PF and then check in position when the flop comes Axx, I find some of my opponents will immediately go on the defensive. So checking the flop opens up the delayed cbet possibility and puts my opponents on guard. The downside to checking is that we're showing weakness and giving our opponent a chance to take this pot away from us on the turn.

I like to try and mix it up a little, sometimes I check and sometimes I cbet. I usually lean towards the cbet because I'm an aggressive player but after typing my thoughts out in this post, I've realised that there may be more benefits to checking. hmmmm.... maybe I should start leaning towards the check.

Edit....anyone calling that river bet? I might look the villain up out of sheer curiousity and because I checked the turn.

I didn't comment because I think it's a leak in my game. When I check the turn I often find myself calling river bets. I almost expect villains to bluff once I've checked the turn. I'm usually beat. Villain's bet here looks very much like a value bet to me, but I suppose we only have to be right 1 in 3 to make this call break even. I suppose it boils down to knowing your opponents.

To me villains bet on the river was a value bet enough that I have to get away. TT/JJ/QQ are possible but I really figured him for some kind of ace.

Not sure I believe it but I said "meh" then folded and showed the cards. He said "77, K would've been nice". Maybe I got bluffed, I dunno.
