Check the straight on the river?
I swear, I was THIS close to checking. Something smelled fishy and the river, while making my hand, was a bit of a scare card. Instead I decided to put in a small bet thinking that it might get called by a weaker hand or if I happen to be check raised, then it's probably going to be to a relatively small amount that I'm comfortable calling.
Bad idea? Should I have even called his C/R? In hindsight, I can't really see him C/R-ing with a lot of hands I could beat here.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (8 handed)

I'm done with it after the turn call. Any thing you're getting called by on the river has you beat imo.
You had a stab at the pot. You didn't take it down. You have nothing on the turn and not much more on the river. The best thing you can hope for is he caught trips, but that's all that's calling you on the river. He either has nothing or a monstor. Either way your getting FA value with a river bet.
If you ever have a suspicion you have more than the odds chance you are beat then check it down. In this situation you have 2/1 pot odds. I think you are beat by too many hands here to justify a value bet.
I would also definately not call the check raise. you should have figured you had a decent cance of being beat. If you did make the value bet in error as you did and you now get check raised its time to wake up and smell the monstor. Fold!
To define your hand more clearly I think a bigger turn bet or even a continuation bet on the flop would let you know more accurately where you stand in this hand. I think the flop bet is fully justified given the open ended straight draw you have. I think you would then know by the turn that he has you. If not the turn you'd know by the river. I think he would probably check raise the turn or check call. If you checked the turn after a flop bet he comes out betting on the river.

Agree with Shalesey. Turn call is a big indicator. I would probably go ahead and check after.

bet that flop always.
as played, river is a fold -> your not beating anything that would cr the river.
also from the line u took, i would have bet the river harder, like about $3.00-3.50.

I check that every single time.
If you are going to value bet it though, you 100% have to fold to the raise.

There is a couple of hands we beat, such as trip nines, but I dunno how likely they are after the pf raise.
