Why can't I slowplay?
When he raised the flop, I figured him for the exact hand he had and figured it would be ok to slowplay this one. When he raised me on the river I looked to my buddy who was watching me play the hand and said "FUCK.....A9 of spades." Don't ask me why I re-raised him for the last $11.50, I guess it was mostly out of frustration, and maybe a small part of me figured he could call with a lesser hand (2 pair? set of 2s?) but did I just get unlucky here or should I have not played it so slowly? Perhaps raise it to $15 on the turn? I doubt it would have mattered but at least it probably would have been a better move on my part.
I rarely slow play, especially on a board like this, but I've just been running so badly lately that I figured I should try and mix things up, play a hand differently than I normally would.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (8 handed)

Turn: ($9.75) (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $5, Hero raises to $10, Button calls $5.
River: ($29.75) (2 players)
Hero bets $10, Button raises to $25, Hero raises to $40, Button calls $11.50 (All-In).
Final Pot: $106.25

I like your slowplay here. The turn is pretty much a blank, although it opens up the bd flush possibility. I def raise the turn more, then check-call or push the river.

You made a winning play on the turn and river. That's a great board to not slowplay. That's a great to board to play fast. I don't know what you were waiting for here with middle set. Any overpair or 9 is going to the felt here. If he can't beat a 9, you're not getting anything off of him on later streets making the slowplay nothing more than a Barbie accessory.

I don't know about the turn, I wouldn't slowplay that flop.
1. He could easily have had a club draw, why allow him to see it for free?
2. If he has TT-KK and an overcard falls on turn he may get scared.
Turn has to be raised to $15. You've given him 3-1 odds and implied ods to your whole stack since you didnt fold when the spade hit. I know its hard to put someone on hitting runner runner flush so not saying you shouldn;t pay him off, but how do you play if a club falls?
I ask myself in these situations if my opponent made a big mistake at any point - here I don't think your opponet did.

1. I never slow play that flop. All it does is it makes ur hand alot harder to play on the turn and river, and if anyone actually has a hand here, ur letting them off easy and leaving money on the table.
2. Re-raise that flop raise. On that flop I would have RRed to about $9-12.
3. Your turn raise is way too small. Make it at least $15 to go. By only min raising ur giving ur opponent very good implied odds to keep chasing. And if u cant fold the river if his card hits, then he just made money off you in the long run by calling ur turn raise.
4. When he raises you on the river, he just told you he has made a flush. He is not going to be raising with 2 pair or any lower set on that river because of the flush potential. Therefore, you should have flat called instead of 3-betting the river.
5. Hand was played too passively imo. I dont like how any of the 3 streets were played. The way you played it, you essentially minimized ur gain from ur opponent when u were ahead, and maximized ur loss against him when u were behind.
anyways, never slowplay a set in a unraised pot pf imo. your giving way too much implied odds for anyone with a draw to chase and stack you by doing so.
