AK with gay shortstack at table
How do people adapt in a situation like this?
$400NL 6 handed
You are 2nd to act with AKs $600 stack and it folds to you
CO = $100 shortstack - just doubled someone else up and you just know he is likely to call almost any raise, you know he will also probably not reraise and probably not raise of you just call. He is unlikelyto fold on flop uif he has any piece of it.
Button, SB and BB all have $400+ stacks.
Option 1 - limp, may end up in limpfest and you dont know where you are.
Option 2 - raise to 4-5bb. Gay shortstack will probably call and you end up either chek-folding if you miss or pot commited with A high.
Option 3 - raise to $100 or close too. Shortstack may call but no action from others with average hands andf if someone else has AA-KK you will pay dearly.
What do you do?

option 2.. open for 4xBB.. if i miss, then i cb for about 55-65% of ps.. if he raises then i fold, if he flat calls and i dont improve on turn then i check-fold.

Agreed.
In your spot (Assuming we're talking about 6max. and this is 2/4), I'd raise to $20. I gamble with shortstack and I'm slightly in the green, but the EV comes with the "Don't fuck with me because I bought in for the full. I want your money and if I lose to you, it's a small loss and I'll get you" message. Sounds stupid, but it works because they'll close their range in the future against and tell you what they have in their FPS.
Another point that Eclpise hits hard is that you don't have to spend a lot CB'ing them on the flop because they buy in short looking to hit flops hard or fold.

if you open for 100, you may as well open for 400. thta really is bad poker imo. raise to 2.5 or 3bb. you deff wanan keep pots small vs short stacks. he has 1/4 stack, so maybe 3.5 bb raise is fine. however, when the y have 1/5 stack or less, I start limping more and keeping pot small.
I see a good pro named nenad medic (serb2127) do this very effectively. who says raising a good hand is mandetory? .. oh yea sklansky. w/e imo, keep it small(er).
mainly 100$ is bad b/c 4ppl to act behind you. is you were SB and he was BB 100$ is great imo, but not when your UTG+1.
Id say second alternative is limp. open for 100 is worst.

How do you know he's gay? Was he hitting on you?
On to the actual question:
Over-raising is a bad option. Nix #3.
I think you'd prefer to isolate the short stack, since otherwise you're put in an awkward position on the flop - wedged inbetween live stacks in the blinds and the SS.
How do you know he won't re-raise? I see a lot of short stacks take their shots preflop with small pp's and weaker A's. That possibility, along with the desire to isolate, is making me like a raise of 3-5.
If you were earlier, I would like a very small PF raise (2-3). Then you have a good chance of a couple callers, and by the time it gets to the SS, they see a built pot and might decide to take a stab at it by pushing.

blech @ open-limping.
Raise 4x. If he calls, he still has $84 behind him and you if had to lead a flop for $25, you're not committed and it'll be a good bet at the flops you'll end up betting at.
