Default Poker players charity work helping poker image

    Nice to see..

Lots of poker players are doing things for charities," he tells contributing writer Robert Gluck, "whether it's giving money directly or participating in charity poker events which are becoming popular.

"The poker players with the new gaming bill have become so much more united, and it's not only with charity."

Negreanu singled out Jennifer Harman's recent event for the SPCA in Las Vegas as a good example, with even more top pros coming together because of that sense of unity, and the net benefits are being felt by charities everywhere.

"It's good on both fronts, because anytime we do that it's going to help charities as well," he says. "It's a great way to raise money and the poker community as a whole has really done a lot for charitable causes."

Daniel Negreanu himself was praised for his efforts, among them donating 20 poker tables, 40 decks of cards and 20,000 poker chips to a charity poker tournament in the name of Adam Pulling, a Western Michigan University student who died of cancer in 2004.

"Sometimes it's just something that seems to fit, that seems like a good idea. The Pulling people approached me and it seemed like it was a good cause."

Maybe I feel a bit more selfish now... We've had 2 large (150 players) poker tourney in my Arctic city, and I was frustrated that 50% went to "charety" (I wasn't ITM either time, so doesnt really matter ). Of course, it's a bit different than helping cancer, these were for the local mens hockey team.

What percentage of the total buy-in's do you guys think should go to charity in these types of events?
"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, they make them." - George Bernard Shaw
