2nd in chips final table (by 2000) others are light years away. Do I look for a deal as the table drops in numbers or is it all depending on my stack and how well I am doing??
This is only a $1 Tourney on Party (442 entrants - very pleased to get this far in this), but have never been in a tourney with deals before.

$1 tourneys are a waste of time

Deals are only worth it if big sums of money are involved.
Congrats on the 6th place. Whether is it a waste of time is a matter of opinion I guess but I do agree IMO unless it is practice. I would rather play a bunch of $1 SNGs and build the BR.SnG Record

Waste of time???
$15 for $1 investment is pretty good ratio (15:1 for those that did not know :P)
Seeing as I had only $3 left on Party and won $7 in a 2.50 tourney (busted out 18 of about 500 in that one) and 15 in this. Then I reckon it is well worth it.
Plus I am getting better in my ability to play larger fields and play a TAG style that, for the most seems to be working well. Also had a 15th place in the 4.40 180 man on stars after seeing nothing in that space for quite some time.
Overall I feel very happy that these small buy in tournies are beginning to strengthen my overall game.
Thanks for the input loz.My FTP 1000 $1 SnG Quest:

I love them $1 tourneys, they are great fun and a good way to resuscitate a dying bankroll with little risk.
I had a streak of bad beats which annihilated my bank roll, lost all but $9 and my confidence, but managed to slowly turn it around with a series of cash finishes in free rolls and the $1 tourneys, just enough to buy in to my usual game.
What's the point of doing deals at this level? play it out!!!Last edited by Lord Lucan; 02-22-2007 at 03:22 AM.

In my opinion you should always take a deal in large MTT's if you get to the final 3 and the blinds represent around 1/10th of your stack or less unless your opponents are totally passive and you know that they will only play something like AJ+ or 99+ and you can bully them around.

My conditions for doing a deal would be:
1. My M is low enough that the tourney is getting towards a push/fold crapshoot
2. The prize money means a lot to me and there is a steep increase at the final table.
3. The prizes may start later on in the final table and you risk no cash whatsoever.
4. I'm not sure that I'm the best (or even near the best) player at the table.
If you reckon you're the best at the table, or you have a decent amount more chips than the others feel free to ask for a bigger slice of the deal. If you're in a big tourney, chances are the others want the deal as much as you so you should try to get away with as much as you can imo.
I've done 1 deal before in a live tourney (£30 entry) when down to the final 6, prizes started at the final 4 (90, 200, 350, 550). We all took £100 and split the rest amongst the top 3. My KK got rivered by 77 and I came 4th, what a deal!
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

I don't like the concept of doing deals but some tournament structures force players to consider it at the crucial stages of an event.
Why cant tournament directors reduce the blinds at this stage? The whole point of raising the blinds is to make the game move faster towards the final table by creating action, but the players on the final table should be able to play a realistic game, which would be better for all!
