Not especially....this was the 3rd largest field. I'm surprised it didn't take more of a hit. There were plenty of satellites running the whole time in the Rio so lots of people got seats that way. Also I don't understand why they wait til November to finish it up instead of playing it out....

There are a few reasons that the WSOP officials give for waiting: 1) to build suspense 2) to give the players a 3 month break to rest or "prepare" for the final table, but really I think it's all about the marketing. By shutting it all down and then starting it all back up again, it generates more money in the long run somehow. I think the break is too long. A two- or three-week break would even be ok, but three months?!

Since the fields are so big now, most of the people who make the FT will be unknown. So this gives them a chance to get some exposure. Marketing and sponcership have a lot to do with it. I think it's actually a great idea. Also this means they will have the chance to play in the WSOP Europe before the FT. Which can also help the 9 players build more of a name for themselves. Plus POY standings are close this year, and depending on how Phil Hellmuth and Ben Lamb do in Europe, Ben Lamb could end up having to win it all just to win POY. I think doing the "november 9" makes them more of a celebrity, which means more to the players. Obviously for the next 4 months they are going to get a lot of love from the media, and different companies wanting to sponcer them.

Not so much on the diversity -- but more/less on the number of players that entered.
As someone mentioned above, it's a surprise that the field was so large. Lots of players have to satellite in.
Having said that, lots of players withdrew their bankrolls too -- so they had the opportunity to get into the WSOP and satty in (as ipokergood said).
