Default LHE vs NLHE for beginners question

Ok, I've joined the forum and in my reading and the replies to my thread I now realize and admit that I am a..... well, ignorant moron who knows very little aboout poker, just enough to really mess it up actually. So I have a long road ahrad of me. That being said...

In everyone's (much more highly informed) opinions, which game makes a better foundation for a lifetime pursuit of being a good, solid, lifelong player?

no limit. most tournys are no limit. prolly 50% cash games are no limit.

I picked a strange road. I started out playing pot-limit first. then NL SnGs and MTTs then Pot limit Omaha, then limit omaha 8 or better, then limit holdem.

I think low limiit NL rewards tight, unimaginative play more than limit.

My advice is to pick up, Getting Started in Holdem by Ed Miller, and try his short stack strategy in NL if that is the game you chose to play. After you feel comfortable with that, you can start adding to you stack and learn more advanced play.

    Ignore Gder, hes pp's brother.

Neither game is prefered. Some players are jsut better at certain games due to their nature.

I am a very good limit player, a very good NL Tourny player, But I really don't play much NL ring due to the variant nature of the game (I can't handle the swings).

There are other games than Hold'em too. I feel that competance in all the games is a requirement to be considerd a decent player.

But for now, pick a game and play it until you feel have a decent grasp of the basics, then branch out until you find a game you truly enjoy.

if you had to pick 1 game that you had to play in order to become well rounded in all forms of poker, NL would help you the most. Why? b/c:

    1. most tournys are NLHE. cash is about 50/50.

    2. NLHE is related to PLO or PLHE more than limit.

Hes asking to pick 1 game. If you pick limit i dont know how you would play NLHE tournys Later when you get borred on NL cash.

conclusion: if you want a good foundation in poker. PLay limit, NL, cash, tourny, omaha, o8b, stud, trip draw, etc..

    thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm not sure what to do at the moment. (With the run I've been on, I suspect taking up solitaire would be wise, but....)

I think I may need to stop studying for a while and play more, maybe I'm just thinking too much. Seems like the card possibilities beat me as often as the cards or the other players.

quick question, are there less people who stay in pots with cards they shouldn't at higher levels? Not that I'm thinking of moving up, but I'm curious to know whether or not life improves after microlimit.

it will usually get tighter at the higher limit
that means the players are better and it is harder to make money, not easier.

depends what you call high limits. obviously .5-1$ games is tighter than a .01-.02nl game. but when i railbird, i see some freaken loose play at the very high limits.

    Thanks Beavis

Well hell, at least they'll play tighter then instead of calling with anything and then catching cards to win. Seems like in these microlimit games people call with anything because they might get something. Sorry, I'm just sore about losing w KK to 83o because the guy is dumb enough to go all with it before the flop. grrr...I'm just aggrevated. EVERYONE calls in these little games. It's like playing limit without the limit (if that makes any sense) A friend reccomended I stop playing for crumbs, but I can't afford the BR to move up in NLHE, hence my original question. %$#@!!!!!! I need a better job, winning lotto ticket, something. I guess I'm just on tilt and need to go abuse the play money tables instead of letting this get to me... #@$%!!!!!!!!

Just imagine, for every 1 time they hit, they miss 3 others. Thats when you take their money. Theres a reason you can make 10bb/100 at the low limits, but only 2/100 at the higher....
