    Turn: (t700) 2 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets t520, UTG calls t520

    River: (t1740) 3 (2 players)
    UTG checks, Hero checks

    Total pot: t1740

Villain calling with pocket 3's which is probably a fair call putting me on an overpair. When he called the flop I was thinking he could be on a straight draw and when he called the turn I thought maybe he already had it or had hit a set and it was a trap. Either way it was getting expensive since I had missed completely.

Personally I would have been inclined to fold on the turn bet in his position.

In the end it was a trap as he checked his set on the river - who wouldn't?

I installed a trial version of one and had all sorts of drama with the database setup and then after that I couldn't get the HUD to work. Drove me nuts and I gave up

That's disappointing, the info you get from them can be valuable. You start shoving HUD stats in my face I can tell you all sorts of crazy stuff your opponent does. Reads are nice too though, simple actions are very often indicative of someone's skill level and overall play style.

I would almost never continuation bet this flop. Any hand with a 345678 or 9 is going to call you at least once. I would advise checking the flop and taking a free card. Many weak players will allow you to check down and win with ace high. As played though, I would absolutely check the turn as well.
